If you make money with your embroidery machine or any apparel decoration equipment or want to, there are at least three great reasons to attend a live event in the embroidery/apparel decoration industry:
- The knowledge and training you get at the event. Simply put, it is where you learn the cutting edge stuff before it gets discussed elsewhere. Sometimes the best information comes from the speakers at the front of the class, sometimes it comes from the person you have lunch with, sometimes it comes from a conversation you have at the bar or in the restaurant at the end of the day.
- The contacts you make. Almost every strong embroidery friendship I have is with someone I met at a live event. There is nothing like meeting someone face-to-face to short circuit the relationship-building process.
- The inspiration and camaraderie from meeting other people that are passionate about embroidery and apparel decoration. I remember the first time I met someone who has a very successful embroidery business. At the time, my business was growing and I thought I was doing really well. But the idea that someone could actually make $100,000+ in a home- based embroidery business seemed crazy. The idea that someone could actually make half a million, or more, in embroidery? Never even knew it was possible. But here was proof-positive… and the $100,000+ guy and the $500,000+ gal were just regular people going through the buffet line next to me. That instantly raised the bar on what I thought was possible… and it wasn’t long before I had a $100,000 business of my own.
So, that leads to the next question – which events should you go to?
Well, my favorite events are NNEP’s Embroidery Trade Show, March 30-31, 2012 in Sandusky/Huron, Ohio, http://embroiderytradeshow.org and NNEP’s Embroidery Mart, July 27-28, 2012 in Nashville, TN, http://www.embroiderymart.com … but I’m completely biased, of course .
There are other events to consider – DAX, ISS, Printwear, ASI, PPAI, all the regional road shows –
BOTTOM LINE: Make it a point to get to a live event. Yes, that means you have to travel. Yes, that means you might have to leave your comfort zone. Yes, that means you have to carve the time out of your busy schedule.
It doesn’t matter… just do it. In my experience, nothing else will make as big an impact on your business.
See you at the show – Jennifer
PS – Just get out to a live event. You’ll thank me for it.

You forgot to mention you can also form personal connections with vendors, which can help you out when you need information or a favor.
